Integrated Defense Systems

Randy Simons is vice president and chief financial officer for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, a $32 billion business unit with 70,000 employees worldwide that combines weapons and aircraft capabilities, intelligence and surveillance systems, communications architectures and extensive large-scale integration.

Simons is responsible for all financial activities of Boeing IDS, including its three businesses -- Boeing Military Aircraft, Network and Space Systems, and Global Services & Support -- as well as a Tanker Programs unit and an advanced technology development organization known as Phantom Works. He leads a 6,400-person international organization that includes teams in financial planning and analysis, accounting, estimating, contracts and pricing, integrated scheduling, rate forecasting, earned value management compliance, and productivity improvement.

Prior to this assignment, Simons was vice president and general manager of Business Management and chief financial officer for the company's Military Aircraft and Missile Systems division.

Simons joined McDonnell Douglas in 1989 as director of Audit. Before joining the company, Simons worked for Ernst & Young, certified public accountants, in its accounting and auditing departments in Dallas and Washington, D.C. From 1991 to 1997, he was controller for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace. He later served as vice president of Business Resources for Boeing's research and development organization. In March 1999, he was named vice president of Finance for Boeing Twin-Aisle Programs. In January 2000, he became chief financial officer for Airplane Programs in the Commercial Airplanes business unit, responsible for the financial systems, processes and databases for the 717, 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 programs.

Simons holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University and has been a certified public accountant since 1976. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Executives Institute. He serves on the board of directors of both Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., and the City of St. Louis' Forest Park Forever.
